Westhoughton Town Carnival

Westhoughton has an annual town carnival over three days, starting with a firework display on the Friday evening and a grand procession on the Sunday. An amusement fair runs for the carnival week, and Central Park is turned into a display ground, many stalls and exhibitions set up. On the Sunday, a celebrity is chosen to open the Carnival and take place at the head of the procession, which also includes Carnival Queens.

Since 1998 and primarily due to the recent poor and unpredicable weather, the event usually takes place over one and a half days in August.
